City of Boone - Boone, North Carolina - is home to Appalachian State University, and some of the best shopping anddining in the NC high country. Don't miss the Mast General Store and family-style dining at the Daniel Boone Inn. As a larger city, this is the place to head when in need of a Wal-Mart or Lowes home improvement store.

Fishing – These are truly "golden pond" experiences. Bass Lake on the Blue Ridge Parkway, with its handicapped accessible trail, is popular in all four seasons. So is Price Lake, with another beautiful lakeshore hike. That path passes through the Parkway's biggest campground with stunning shoreline camp sites. Price Lake also offers one of the area's best family boating opportunities. The calm lake is perfect for paddling-and canoes, rowboats, and starting in 2013, kayaks, are available for rent at the lake. Fishing is permitted too, with bait available for sale and fishing tackle for rent.Trout Lake almost hides in Blowing Rock's Moses Cone Park-but you can find it!

Grandfather Mountain - features the famous mile high swinging bridge. Its peak is the highest elevation in the Blue Ridge chain. We highly recommend this as a day trip during your stay. There are fantastic hiking trails and plenty of natural beauty.

Horn in the West Outdoor Drama - Located in Boone N.C., this is one of the area's best bets for family entertainment. Enjoy the compelling story of American hero Daniel Boone and the intrepid settlers of America in their journey westward. You are surrounded by the majestic 200-year old oaks the stage was built around and entertained with story, song and dance under the stars. Indian Fire Dance, Revolutionary War Battles, and more.

Mast General Store -  Mast Store's Old Boone Mercantile is brimming with items from all areas of the Mast Store - mercantile with its cast iron cookware, coffees, and Amish rocking chairs; outdoor and shoes with brand names.  Also at the Boone location is a treat for young and old alike - 500 old-fashioned, hard-to-find candies overflowing from barrels.

The Blowing Rock - there actually is a "blowing rock" in the NC Mountains. This huge rock cliff is said to have such a wind gust, that it is the only place on earth where it snows upside down. It is part natural wonder and part tourist attraction.

Tweetsie Railroad - "North Carolina's Original Family Theme park" - Tweetsie Railroad is a short drive. There is plenty of live family entertainment including music, magic, clogging, wild west shows and more. The amusement park features a steam engine, fun rides, gem mining, and gold panning.
